Preface

The By-Laws of the Associated Students of Stanford University is the most detailed of the governing documents of the Association. Its provisions are inferior in authority only to those of the Constitution. They are superior in authority to the Rules of Order and Standing Rules of any body of the Association, and every act of any Association body or officer must be in accordance with it.

This edition of the By-Laws incorporates all amendments approved by the Senate as of November 1, 1987. Interested readers may also wish to refer to the Constitution of the Associated Students of Stanford University. Copies of both the Constitution and the By-Laws are located in the Business office for those members of the Association interested in examining them.

In October of 1990, this edition of the By-Laws was updated to include all amendments approved by the Senate as of October 1, 1990. The revision history was also made an explicit part of the front matter, so as to facilitate the process of keeping this edition of the By-Laws current.
