Preface

The Constitution of the Associated Students of Stanford University is the supreme governing document of the Association. Its provisions are superior in authority to those of the By-Laws, Rules of Order, and Standing Rules of any body of the Association, and every act of any Association body or officer must be in accordance with it.

This edition of the Constitution incorporates all amendments approved as of May 1986, along with selected letters of acceptance from the University which interpret and qualify provisions of the various amendments to the Constitution.

Interested readers may also wish to refer to the By-Laws of the Associated Students of Stanford University. Copies of both the Constitution and the By-Laws are located in the Business office for those members of the Association interested in examining them.

In May of 1991, this edition of the Constitution was updated to include all amendments approved by the Association as of the Spring 1991 General Election. The revision history was also made an explicit part of the front matter, so as to facilitate the process of keeping this edition of the Constitution current.
