To Make Those Elected to Seats 16-20 in the Undergraduate District and the
Graduate Districts Voting Members on Senate Committees

Action requested: Approval; requires two-thirds majority
- WHEREAS
- a transition committee was formed to address issues of transition
from the 1969 constitution to constitution Œ96, and
- WHEREAS
- the transition committee consisted of all members of the Association
in attendance at each meeting of the transition committee, and
- WHEREAS
- the transition committee unanimously put forth a set of recommendations
as a transition plan, and
- WHEREAS
- the transition committee recommendations were unanimously approved by
the XXVIth Senate, and
- WHEREAS
- the transition committee took into consideration the inherent conflict
between the elections results which were produced under the 1969 constitution
senate structure and the desire to immediately implement the senate structure
under constitution Œ96, and
- WHEREAS
- non-voting Senators under the 1969 constitution had voting rights in
Senate committees, and
- WHEREAS
- the transition committee recommended that those elected to seats 16-20
in the undergraduate district and to seats 16-20 in the graduate districts under
the 1969 constitution be made ex-officio members of the XXVIIth Senate and be
assigned to and given voting privileges on Senate committees,
- THEREFORE
- be it
enacted by the Senate of this Association
- THAT
- Article II.5.B.1 of the bylaws of the Senate of the Association
Alternate Senators shall have full privileges in all Committees of the Senate
be replaced with
For the Duration of the First Senate, those elected to seats 16-20 in the
graduate districts, as determined by differences in seat allocations for
graduate districts between the 1969 constitution and constitution Œ96, and
those elected to seats 16-20 in the undergraduate district shall have full
privileges in all Committees of the Senate.
and,
- THAT
- upon the dissolution of the First Senate, Article II.5.B.1 of
the bylaws of the Senate of the Association be struck.
