Abstract
Millicent is a system for secure electronic commerce over the Internet.
This talk describes the rationale and the design of the Millicent
protocol. The protocol is intended to support purchases costing less
than a cent. It is based on decentralized validation of electronic
cash without expensive encryption, communication, or off-line processing.
Millicent is joint work with Steve Glassman, Mark Manasse, Paul Gauthier,
Patrick Sobalvarro, and Stephen Freeman. The project web site is:
