Abstract

Millicent is a system for secure electronic commerce over the Internet. This talk describes the rationale and the design of the Millicent protocol. The protocol is intended to support purchases costing less than a cent. It is based on decentralized validation of electronic cash without expensive encryption, communication, or off-line processing.

Millicent is joint work with Steve Glassman, Mark Manasse, Paul Gauthier, Patrick Sobalvarro, and Stephen Freeman. The project web site is: http://www.research.digital.com/SRC/millicent/.
