Designed to prepare graduate students for research in foundations of cryptography and, for the most part, complements material covered in CS355 during Fall, 1998 (not a prerequisite). Issues in achieving security under concurrency will be emphasized. Specific topics include: hash functions, pseudo-random functions and synthesizers, bit commitment, zero-knowledge, public-key cryptography, non-malleability, and open problems.
