Thunderhill June 16-18, 2000 I had done an open track day on 5 June. Friday practice: Hot and windy. 102 fahrenheit and 35-40 mph winds. Got into the low 2:17s. A bunch of 250 production riders were there, but it wasn't very crowded probably because of the heat. Saturday practice: Hot and less windy. ~102 fahrenheit and 10-20 mph winds. Got into the low 2:16s. Had a fun dice with Nick Tenbrink (#809) in practice. Sunday practice: Sunday 250 superbike: Started from the last or next-to-last row with Steve Chan (#808) and Nick. Nick got a great start, shooting into the vacant grid spot ahead of me before I was even past my number, I think. Had a great dice with Nick and Chris McGrail (#886). Both of them went faster than me (with Chris doing a 2:14.4xx and Nick doing a 2:14.6xx), and I crossed the line between them (with a best of 2:14.9xx). None of us went as fast as Nick had done (2:14.3xx) in October of 1999. Sunday 250 production: On my best lap I went faster than I had in superbike by the tiniest amount, doing a 2:14.880. Nick and Chris both went slower. I guess in the superbike race we had been towing each other or something; dices often slow all the riders down, but maybe not in that case. Anyway, I got a decent start from the outside of the front row, (decent meaning that no one from rows behind passed me). Paul Somerville (#311) got a bad start for once and wheelied big-time much like I did at the first race of this year. Frank got off the line first, as usual. I don't remember where I passed the rest of the front row, but I passed Frank for the lead going into turn three on the first lap. I didn't see a wheel for the rest of the race, and that was it -- I won. Nick took second, and Chris took third. I had expected a lot of dicing and fighting for the lead considering how the Superbike race had gone among the three of us, but apparently the order never changed after the first lap. Apparently Chris had some dicing with Frank Mazur (#8) who got fourth. Fire outside turn 2 -- Adam's bike RPM notes (stock [14/45] gearing, 120/80-16 K591 front mounted on rear): Where Gear Acceptable Good Turn 1 exit 6th 12k 12.5k Turn 2 exit 5th did 12.5k a few times; is 13k possible?
