Lightweight Security Protocols for Consumer Electronics Devices

James W. Gray, III

RSA

Motivated by constraints on processing power and memory size, we develop a lightweight cryptographic toolkit using (for the most part) provably-secure constructions. As one application of the toolkit, we describe a secure remote access protocol that improves upon (and potentially replaces) Microsoft's Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). Time permitting, we will also discuss lightweight protocols for secure Over-The-Air Programming (e.g., for pagers) and secure Broadcast (e.g., for cable TV).

These are the slides used for the talk.
